Cashew Kernels

INTRODUCTION

Cashew industry of India is perhaps the first in the country to embrace quality control on a voluntary basis. With the active co-operation of the industry and approval of the Government of India, the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India introduced a scheme of compulsory quality control and pre-shipment inspection of cashew kernels with effect from 1-4-1963. The scheme was later entrusted to the Export Inspection Agencies established by the Government with effect from 1-4-1966. The pre-shipment inspection was thus covered under the Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Rules, 1966. Under these rules, inspection of cashew kernels for export was conducted under the consignment-wise inspection. It is ensured that the product is processed and packed as per the standards stipulated by drawing samples from finished products.
